[net.micro.amiga] Low Memory Interlaced Screen

mende@topaz.RUTGERS.EDU (Bob Mende) (10/29/86)

Now that I have setfont working I would like to be able to do the
following.

Have a Interlaced Screen be defaulted to. I would like this
to use as little memory (I only have 512K) as possible. What
I want to do is to Have a 2 bit plane screen (if it can be
done in interlaced mode). This would suck up lots less memory

If anyone has a program that can do this ... *PLEASE* send it to
me or post it to the net.... Thanks...

ps... I wonder what a 5X5 font will look like in Interlaced mode???

The forthcoming 1.2 system supports an interlaced workbench screen
through Preferences. Much like you describe, 2 bit planes, etc. It
takes up twice the memory of the non-interlaced screen. The main effect
of this is that everything looks vertically squashed as compared to
the non-intelaced screen. So a 5x5 or 8x8 font isn't very good looking.
The 1.2 system includes a taller topaz font, I think they call it
11. Its 8 pixels wide, 11 tall, and looks about as good as the IBM
monochrome display when its hooked up to an IBM-style monochrome monitor.
Unfortunately, Preferences doesn't support this font as an option, which
is why I wrote my own version of SetFont.
