I would like to buy an amiga, use it here for a while and take it to India where it is 220V/50Hz. Local dealers say I can't do that. I can agree that I would have to buy a new monitor there. But does amiga not have a power supply switchable between 220(50hz)V and 110(60Hz) ? Can somebody help me on this ? -thanks in advance. e-mail address : srinivas@sally.utexas.edu

All you need is a good 220V->110V transformer with enough power for both the Amiga and the monitor. The 50Hz may cause some slight flicker on the monitor. If you are running the 1.1 OS, your system time-of-day clock will be slow. If you are running 1.2, the OS will sense the 50Hz and will set up the time-of-day clock to keep correct time under 50Hz. If you wish to use a PAL monitor with a US Amiga, you must replace the Agnus chip with a PAL Agnus chip. The 1.2 OS checks for this and sets up various GfxBase variables accordingly. The US 1.1 OS does not handle PAL. There is a special European version of 1.1 which is PAL specific (version 32). Only 1.2 is capable of adapting itself to 60Hz/50Hz and/or NTSC/PAL. -- =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-= Carolyn Scheppner -- CBM >>Amiga Technical Support<< UUCP ...{allegra,caip,ihnp4,seismo}!cbmvax!carolyn PHONE 215-431-9180 =-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=-=

I think most monitors will work on either 60 or 50 Hz, so that should not be a problem. +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Kees Huyser | | Nationaal Instituut voor Kern Fysica en Hoge Energie Fysica | | National Institute for Nuclear and High Energy Physics | | PO Box 4395 | | 1009 AJ Amsterdam, The Netherlands | | | | UUCP : keeshu@nikhefk.UUCP | | {[wherever]!seismo}!mcvax!keeshu@nikhefk.UUCP | | | | IF YOU BELIEVE DISCLAIMERS, YOU'LL BELIEVE ANYTHING! | +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ +-----------------------------------------------------------------+ | Kees Huyser | | Nationaal Instituut voor Kern Fysica en Hoge Energie Fysica | | National Institute for Nuclear and High Energy Physics | | PO Box 4395 | | 1009 AJ Amsterdam, The Netherlands | | | | UUCP : keeshu@nikhefk.UUCP | | {[wherever]!seismo}!mcvax!keeshu@nikhefk.UUCP | | | | IF YOU BELIEVE DISCLAIMERS, YOU'LL BELIEVE ANYTHING! | +-----------------------------------------------------------------+
