[net.news.notes] From notesfiles to a program

Has anyone done anything that will let some notesfiles automatically
be gated into a program?  I know I can easily write a library that
lets me iterate over all articles and responses, but I really want to
be able to take stuff like the UUCP map data and feed it right into
uuhosts, pathalias, or whatever.

Please respond to me, and I will summarize.  Failing that, I will write
code (sigh :-).

If people are accepting wish list ideas:

How about the ability to search for strings accross note files?

I find that I can't remeber exactly where I saw something. I'd like to
be able to set up some search criteria and then have the system come back
an let me sequence thru the selected notes.  It would be nice to have
the kind of search capabilities in packages like NEXUS , Dialog or
fulcrum where you can specify words that might be "near" each other as well
as boolean search paramaters.
