Game is an enjoyable attempt to be the first to lay rail through the Rocky Mountains. The map is a standard map of Colorado with hexes superimposed. You build rails with a crayon, just as in Empire Builder. (Btw. we found that the crayons would work fine in Empire Builder so long as we avoided the darker colors. And whatever you do, don't leave the game out in the sun! Those crayons sure make a mess -- Louisiana now looks like a hurricane zone.) The game is rather similar to Empire Builder actually. In RttR you have several different geographical objectives as well which is a nice additional feature. And the cost to build rail varies tremendously. Trying to go through some of passes can take you several turns. Also, the random events are more varied and frequent. Finally, you can actually do things to affect the play of others, something which is a little lacking in EB. Recommended if you like railroad games (by now we've probably all heard more than we ever wanted to know about RR games...) -- --rick heli (... ucbvax!ucdavis!groucho!ccrrick)
