The speaker will be David Rosenthal, Distinguished
Engineer, Sun Microsystems, Inc. David is one of the
pioneers in both the X and NeWS Windowing System development
and requires no further introduction. David will talk about
"The Future of X", which should be a very interesting
presentation as most of us are either using X or OpenWindow
as our day-to-day windowing environment.
Abstract: X version 11 seems to be fated to become the
Fortran of window systems; too useful to change. This
Nov 90 BAYSLUG Newsletter Vol. 7 No. 3
makes it important to examine its constraints and
limitations, because the X community will be living with
them a long time.
At the July 1990 Western Regional Sun User Group
Conference hosted by BAYSLUG, Michael Powell's "Future of
Unix" presentation received a standing ovation! As a result,
this presentation on X is considered as a logical extension.
There will be a short discussion on how to obtain both
UUCP and mail feeds after the presentation for those who are
not connected to the Internet/USENET community.
