[net.database] WANTED: Info on dbfind usage

leo@sunybcs.UUCP (Leo Wilson) (07/22/86)

<one for the bug>

I just bought a copy of Informix v3.11 for my Altos 68000 and am
having a problem with the dbfind function in the C application language
library. It doesn't seem to work at all.

What I am trying to do is write a small & simple interactive program
that checks a file for the existance of a primary key, (type long) writes
the key to a text file if it isn't found, and prompts for another value.

Sounds simple enough, but it isn't working. I have to be doing something
wrong. The examples in the manual really seem insufficient, having
only coverage of one-shot string comparisons. This is pretty unsat. Why
would anyone go to the trouble of using an application language interface
for a one-shot query?

Has anyone out there got a C program that does what I am trying to do
that I might look at and use as an example? Better yet, is there any
kind of book available in English that I might get some useful information
from about Informix's ALL?

Thanks in advance for any help anyone might give.	-Leo
