Hi, I am about to be moving in to the field of RDBMS systems after a long time in operating systems and compilers. Needless to say things have moved on somewhat since I last used a decent database. I was hoping that someone out there would be able to give me some pointers to some reading material regarding the "state-of-the-art" in RDBMS. Also, we are about to buy a copy of the SQL system from QIT (Queensland Information Technology in Australia) to run on one of our unix ports. Has anyone out there used it and can give me some advice, bug-reports etc?. As an aside, is there a syntax chart (a la wirth & Pascal) for SQL. This would allow me to build a syntax and semantic checking utility for any bought in applications. Is SQL a standard (IEEE or ISO)? If so, where do I get a copy? Thanks for the help, treval. -------------------------------------------------------------------------------- ACE Associated Computer Experts bv treval@ace.uucp NZ Voorburgwal 314, 1012 RV, mcvax!ace!treval Amsterdam, Holland. +31 20 26-24-00 --------------------------------------------------------------------------------

A draft ANSI SQL standard may be found in a back issue of SIGMOD Record (ACM) published sometime in 1985.
