[net.database] Request for Vendor Information

brianm@bigtuna.UUCP (Brian Martin) (08/30/86)

To all vendors of UNIX/RDBMS systems: please send me information on your
products. I'm developing a workstation-based Medical Information System.
The dbms that is embedded in the system must run on Apollos, Suns, and Vaxen.
Performance is essential. You can assume that all workstations will have a
minimum of 8MB main memory. Average response time to a simple query must be
less than 4 seconds (physicians are notoriously impatient people).

Also, concurrent access to multiple databases in different locations, e.g.,
five different hospitals separeated by over 500 miles each, must be supported.
I'm currently testing the dbms marketed by Groton Data Base systems. The
design is very nice, and they've been very responsive to problems that I have
discovered. However, the performance of their system has not met my
expectations, though they have said that that they are working on increasing
the system's performance.

Before I make my decision as to which dbms to embed in my system, I'd like to
hear from other dbms vendors.

Thanks in advance,

Brian K. Martin
