(this may or may not be a repeated posting, depends which
of the two messages I received last time I tried to post
I should believe.)
I posted a request for references to database theory in general
and relational database theory in particular some time back.
The number of replies was so small that there is no possibility
of determining what text is actually used by the readers of
net.database or the general practitioners at large. Despite this
limitation there has been a request that I post results, and so ...
Number of responses : 6
Number of books referenced : 10, some responses listed two books.
(1) DB System Concepts McGraw-Hill Korth & Silberschatz
(1) DB Design Weiderhold
(2) Theory of RDB's Maier
(3) Intro to DB Systems Addison-Wesley Date
(3) Principles of DB Systems Computer Ullman
Science Press
As an aside, a book club that I belong to is offering Ullman for
$11.88 and Maier for $12.58 + postage, so I plan to purchase these
two particular books. Note : these low prices require you to purchase
umpteen other books at high prices, so don't bother asking for the
name of the book club since you won't have the same opportunity as
I now have until you buy lots of other stuff.
Disclaimer : I have no relation to any person or company, specified
or implied, in the above list. I do not plan to
benefit monetarily from this posting, and do not
represent the above list as a reflection of the
opinions of U of Waterloo or myself, but rather as
a simple retransmission of information I received
via e-mail.
