Date: Thu, 17 Oct 85 13:23:37 pdt From: <hplabs!oliveb!3comvax!brianb> 3Com announces EtherMac. EtherMac connects the 3Server network server to Appletalk for Macintosh use, and provides: * Volume Service -- volumes can be private (1 reader/writer), public (many readers, 1 writer), or shared (many readers & writers). You can access volumes on any 3Server on the Ethernet backbone network. With the optional 3Server tape backup unit, MS-DOS and Macintosh volumes may be easily backed up to tape. * LaserWriter Print Spooling -- dramatically decreases the time spent waiting for jobs to print. Print jobs are spooled to the 3Server hard disk and printed in the order received. The Macintosh is thus freed up to continue with useful work, rather than waiting for its turn at the printer. * Integration with 3Com's EtherSeries for the IBM PC -- A utility is supplied that allows Macintoshes to link to MS-DOS format volumes (anywhere on the Ethernet) and transfer data back and forth. MS-DOS machines can print on 3Server-attached LaserWriters.
