[mod.newprod] Flash! Teach Your Baby to Read

usenet@cuae2.UUCP (Heiby) (06/04/86)

Flash is an extension to the Glenn Doman "Teach Your Baby to Read"
program. The program itself uses a set of high-quality flash cards
with a special blend of excited praise to make a game of learning
to read. It has been used by thousands to teach children as young
as 12 months to read.

One problem with the program is that the cards are a lot of work to
make. You can buy a set from Enclyopedia Britannica, or from the
Better Baby Press, for about $35, but once you run out of these
cards, you have to make your own. You can spend hours making cards,
and this takes away from the enjoyment of the program.

Flash! is a new program which uses a personal computer in place of
the cards. You type on the keyboard, and very large, high quality
red letters appear on the screen. This allows you to make up words
at will during a lesson, since you only have to type the letters
instead of drawing them with marker on cardboard. Flash can be
controlled from the keyboard, or from a script file if you are not
a touch typist.

Flash also makes a great toy for children as young as 3 months.
The child can pound on the keyboard and watch what happens. which
young children love to do. A ``music switch'' causes each key to
sound a different musical note, and a ``kid mode switch'' disables
any keys a child would strike by accident to terminate or alter
the program.

Flash has options to show words, lines of text, or individual letters.
Text as large as half the height of the screen is made with full
resolution letters, or as small as one twelfth the screen height.

Flash runs on an IBM PC with 128K memory, one floppy drive, and a
color graphics display adaptor. It will work well on a monochrome
monitor, but it does need graphics, so it won't run on an IBM
monochroms display adaptor. It will run on compatibles, such as
the AT&T 6300.

The suggested retail price for Flash is $39.95, or $49.95 including
the Doman book "How to Teach Your Baby to Read." As a special
introductory price for Usenet, we will offer it until August 1, 1986
for $24.95, or $34.95 including the book. Just mention that you heard
about it on Usenet. Postage/Handling charge is $3.00 in the US and
Canada. Add 5.5% sales tax in Ohio.

we don't have the resources for credit cards or purchase orders) to
