Article: 8:5 Someone was asking if anyone else besides Ruger manufactured handguns in the new 32H&R Mag. H&R makes three models and Charter Arms makes a double action revolver in that caliber. Earlier someone was asking for an opinion on .444 Marlin vs. .45-70. It depends on whether the person intends to handload the cartridges. Factory loads for 45-70 are purposely kept anemic for the weak actions of the 1873 Springfields and 1886 Winchesters. 444 Marlin doesnt have this problem and comes from the factory loaded to potential. However, 44 cal bullets are designed for handgun velocities and their jackets are thinner and they tend to come apart early when they strike an object at higher velocities (the 265 grain bullet loaded by Remington in the 444 was touted as designed expressly for the 444 so it might be stronger). Handloaders can have a ball with the 45-70 due to the wide variety of bullets available and the stronger marlin action will allow heavier powder charges. A 45-70 Ruger or Siamese M98 mauser owner can load them up even hotter (35,000 ft. lbs. of muzzle energy). [ That was me, thanks Woody! - jh] I have just purchased a 7-30 Waters barrel for my T/C Contender. Does anyone have any loading data for the 7-30 Waters caliber? It's a 30-30 necked down to take a 7MM bullet and was designed by Ken Waters and published in Handloader magazine a while back but I don't have a copy. If anyone has some loading data I would appreciate it if you could e-mail it to me. Thanks, Woody e-mail: decvax!uw-beaver!tikal!persci!woody -- Jordan K.
