I am new to the network. Have been perusing this newsgroup and saw a couple of items on jazz recommendations. So here I go: Charles Mingus: Charles Mingus Presents Charles Mingus (Candid 1960) This is an awesome, which has fortunately been reissued (thank you Barnaby) Eric Dolphy (reeds of all kinds) wails, especially on 'What Love' Ted Curson is steadfast, growling the blues Well you get the picture. (By the way, does anyone know about a Mingus album made in the 1958-1963 years, with poetry written and read by Langston Hughes? Some other highly recommended LPs: The complete genius of Thelonious Monk (Blue Note 1976). A reissue of two 1954 LPs, which were themselves reissues of 1944-1952 singles and 78s, this is uniformly superb. Note that Mosaic has re-reissued this material last year in still expanded form Duke Ellington and Louis Armstrong (Roulette 1961). This is superb throughout. Louis's band, with Duke at the piano, doing all Duke music (strictly the opinion of) Marcel Simon mhuxr!mfs
