The Glaser Safety Slug is a relatively thin copper cup which is loaded
with lead shot and capped with plastic. It travels to the target intact
and falls apart on entry. Due to the rapid and complete disintigration
ALL of the kinetic energy of the bullet is transfered to the target
causing extreem damage. I have fired 45ACP Glasers at 1 gallon water jugs
and in no case did the slug exit. The hydrostatic show was incredible.
This is the reason for the high stopping power.

Because of the high tendency to fall apart when striking something, like a
plaster wall for instance, the richochet propability of these bullets is
very low. Hence the second type of safety. It also makes then less effective
at taking out a target that is behind a wall.

These bullets are very expensive, several dollars each. It would be very
expensive to fire enough of them from an auto to be sure of feed reliability.
I bought my six pack of them for my Colt ACP just for water jug fun. In a
six shooter they come highly reccomended if your situtation does not need
good penetration. But then, who knows what situtation you will be in when
you need to use a handgun to protect yourself or your kin.
