Article: 5:18 There have been some questions about California firearm law(s). I just picked up a pamphlet published by the California Department of Justice (John Van de Kamp, Attorny General), titled 'California Firearm Laws'. Copy(s) are available at $2.00 per copy (price includes postage and handling) from: California Firearms Laws Office of the Attorny General Accounting Office P.O.Box 94255, Room 233 Sacramento, CA 94244-2550 Make checks or money order payable to: Office of the Attorny General. A quote from the introduction: "This pamphlet contains a general summary of California laws that govern common possession and use of firearms. It is not designed to provide individual guidance for specific situations, nor does it attempt to summarize federal law. . . ." ... followed by MORE disclamers. A brief review: The pamphlet cites the various paragraphs of the Penal Code so you can look up (if you want) the details. It is twenty pages long, with ten sections: 1. Prohibited Firearms, Ammunition, and Related Devices 2. Persons Eligible to Possess 3. Persons Ineligible to Possess 4. Use in Defense of Life and Property 5. Carrying a Conceald Wepon 6. Firearms and Picket Activity (even police can't!) 7. Flareguns 8. Selling and Transportation 9. Forfitures 10. Safety Instruction The pamphlet answered MY general questions. I think a copy ought to be included with any gun purchased in California. If only a similar pamphlet(s) were available for city and county laws! larry church church@decwrl.dec.com
