[mod.rec.guns] Ruger RECALL

jordan@greipa.UUCP (Jordan K. Hubbard) (08/08/85)

This is in case some of you have not seen this in
one of the magazines. There is a potential problem
with certain Ruger Mark II .22 pistols.
The specific models are:

Ruger Mark II Standard, automatic pistol
(4 3/4 barrel, blued only), SN from
	210-92816 to 210-94772.

All Ruger Mark II pistols, standard, target
and bull barrel models, (blued only), SN
	from 211-28500 to 211-40000.

It seems there is a possibility that pistols in these groups may
fire if the trigger is pulled when the safety is on "S" and then
the safety is moved to "F".

If you have a Ruger in these groups, please find a copy of the
notice (I saw it in The American Rifleman, August issue, page 2).
It describes a safe procedure to use to determine if your weapon
will act in this manner, and where to send it for free repairs.

They say ship it UPS. I wonder if UPS will accept firearms from
private citizens? Anybody have any experience?

RE: Shipping Firearms vi UPS

Having just sent my S&W 469 back to the factory for repair, the
drawbar broke, I can state that yes you can send firearms
via UPS. I believe that the regulations state you may ship firearms
to federally licensed dealers, gun smiths and manufacturers for repairs
or modifications. You may also recive shippments for the same reasons.

I have also shipped a rifle to Beeman's in CA.

By the way, S&W is doing the repair with no charge. I have also
found Beeman's repair service to be a good deal.

I hope that you or someone else on the net can help me
obtain a list of the various gun and ammunition distributors,
not dealers, within the state of California. I have tried
to located them via the phone books but I have not been able
to find a listing of any. Do I need to contact all of the
various manufactures to find their local representatives?
Is there a publication that has a list of these distributors?
Any help on this would be appreciated.

Owners of Ruger Mark II pistols, series 210 and 211,
should check to determine whether the pistol may fire
after the safety has been set from safe to fire.

Unload the pistol. Place the safety on "S" and pull
the trigger. Place the safety on "F." If the
hammer strikes the firing pin, you have a defective
pistol. Ruger will repair it at no charge.
Write to Sturm, Ruger & Co., Southport, CT, for
details.
