Lest there be others like the anguished soul who took the postscript to V6#15 to mean that fcntl is *gone* -- no, it's tucked away in S6.5.2. However, its name seems to have many the same critics as iocntl, and those comments were solicited. Likewise the defense. Volume-Number: Volume 6, Number 17

Why abbrvt whn u dnt hv to? I see no reason to replace int ioctl( int fd, int request, funnyarg ) where "funnyarg" has type (int) or (struct something *) by anything else, though.
