The US technical advisory group (TAG) for ISO/TC97 has agreed to propose
an ISO work item based on the IEEE 1003.1 POSIX effort. This is the
formal process needed to initiate an ISO standards activity. This
effort would be CLOSELY coordinated with the 1003.1 effort to assure that
we have a Single Standard. Individuals and Institutions outside of the
US are encouraged to contact their ISO TC97 representatives and let them
know of their interest, ideally to encourage both an Approval of the
work item; and an agreement to participate in the project. (Many countries
will be hesitant to participate if they don't know who inside the country
is capable of providing technical input -- so these contacts can aid both
the ISO representatives, and also potentially the individuals who are willing
to participate in their countries "TAGs".)
