There has long been a controversy over what should appear in the From: header line of articles in a moderated newsgroup. There is of late a larger group wanting that line to contain an address of the original submittor, rather than of the moderator. There has even been some discussion of the pros and cons in the moderators' mailing list. So, I'm going to try it and see what happens. Reactions are solicited. I'll point out one implication at the outset: There is no single address format that will be acceptable everywhere these articles are received. This is partly because the newsgroup mostly goes to places where host!user makes sense while the mailing list mostly goes to places where user@domain makes sense. What I will put in the From: line will be whatever the submittor supplied. Don't be surprised if an attempt at replying directly fails. John S.
