An article in yesterday's (7/11) NY Post about the return of the REAL Thing said that the New C(h)oke came about while they were working up the formula for Diet Coke. They said it was 'close enough' to make it the diet version, but that it wouldn't work as a separate sugared product. The impression I get therefore is that the flood of new 'Cokes' (Diet, New, caffeine-free, and probably Cherry) are probably based on a common recipe/formula with appropriate variations. Not that I care that much; my interest is in how fast Classic get (back) to the shelves.
