[net.misc.coke] High Fructose Corn Syrup

stewart@ihlpl.UUCP (R. J. Stewart) (08/07/85)

What is this "high fructose corn syrup" stuff, anyway? Does HFCS
contain only fructose, with none of the deadly sucrose/glucose that's
getting flamed to death in net.med? Or is this syrup only *relatively*
high in fructose compared to "regular" corn syrup?

This reminds me of something that might be related. I used to drink a
root beer that listed fructose as its only sweetener, and had big
letters on the lable that said "sweetened with fructose". One day the
big letters were gone, and I found that the ingredients list now said
"high fructose corn syrup". Is this type of labelling just one more way
to hide regular sugar?
