[net.ham-radio.packet] HF Packet Questions

john@anasazi.UUCP (John Moore) (10/22/85)

Having tinkered a bit with 2-meter packet, I am now interested in going HF.
However, a bit of information would be helpful to me:
(1) Does everyone on HF run 300bd? Is it 103 modem tones?
(2) What hacks do I need to make to my HD-4040 (Heath TAPR clone) in order
to set it up for HF.
(3) What are good HF frequencies to operate on? How about gateways, BBS'?

		Any information would be helpful.
		Facts are even more useful.

...actually in Phoenix Arizona. The K7PYK 2 meter repeater is located
just outside tucson and links Phoenix and Tucson on 147.70/10 (duplex
audio repeater used for packet).
