Status of the Hamburg TNC-project PRIMUS (11/14/1985) -- Thomas Illies, DF7HI
-----------------------------------------------------------------------------
The short form PRIMUS is the future name for the TNC, which some time
ago has been introduced to the public as HANSEAT. This TNC will be
available in two different versions:
- PRIMUS (Packet Radio Interface for Microcomputers "Und Sichtgeraete"
          = and terminals)
- PRIMA (Packet Radio Interface for Microcomputers Alone) = ECB-bus-
          card
PRIMA contains an ECB-bus-interface, a Z8530-SCC (Serial Communications
Controller), a Z80-PIO, an AM7911 (Modem Chip), a PAL and some other
IC's. PRIMUS contains all of the above plus a Z80-CPU, 32K EPROM and 8K
(extendable to 32K) RAM. The price of this should be below DM 200-250
(including cabinet).
Prototypes of the boards are already running, also the AX.25 protocol is
implemented and tested right now. The command language will be very
similar to the one of the TAPR-TNC-1. Planned is multi-connect-
capability, call lister and real time clock. Beacon texts and routing
info will be stored in the bufferd CMOS-RAM. Orders for the printed
circuit board, EPROM's and the PAL will be accepted beginning of 1986.
(Ordering information will be distributed over the net.)
