From: Adam Epstein <A-EPSTEIN@CS.COLUMBIA.EDU> What does it take in terms of a "computer" to get up and running on packet? Can I get away with a "packet controller" and a VT100? If so, what functionality (other than secondary storage etc.) do I lose by going with a configuration that does not include a "computer"? I ask because I don't really like the idea of buying a home computer. I did inherit a Vic-20 a while back. I intended to use it for RTTY but it's still in the closet. Does useful packet software exist for it? What about the Xerox 820 (?) that I've heard about? Is it good for anything other than development? Is it still available and is it worth the cost? Is it finally time for me to break down and buy a home computer? Any and all comments will be appreciated. (Someone may have asked a question along these lines already. If that's the case, feel free to mail to me direct rather than posting to the net.) -Tnx -Adam (N2DHH) A-EPSTEIN@CS.COLUMBIA.EDU (ARPANet) A-EPSTEIN@CS.COLUMBIA.EDU@CSNET-RELAY.ARPA (CSNet) A-EPSTEIN@CUCS20 (BITNet) ...!seismo!columbia!cs!a-epstein (USENet) -------
