[net.ham-radio.packet] TAPR TNCs as wired LAN?

Has anyone ever tried using TAPR/AX.25 TNCs to connect PCs in
a hard wired local area network? It occurs to me that this
ought to work at 56KBS and be really cheap, like $125/node.

Hello!
I heared rumors that the CCC (Chaos Computer Club) here in Hamburg
wanted to wire their local network with AX.25 TNC's. I don't know
if they did it. TAPR TNC's were too expensive for them...
But: To use 56 kBd you would have to change something in the
TAPR-TNC hardware (for the TNC-1). Without a change in the
clock circuit the TNC-1 will only be able to work up to 4800 Bd, I
think (?).
