Help. I am, as promised, the proud owner of a shiney new 7300. I love it, but I had a neonatal morbidity, about 14 hours after uncrating: 1. Turned machine on and let it humm, I went to shave, came abck and it was just arriving at the login promt (5 min). Strange. Signed on and tried to change the date (my battery must be dead inside). The machine thrashed wildly, disk paging like no tomorrow, taking several minutes to respond to a single keyboard keystroke. After about 1/2 hours I finally got to the administration command logout entry. The machine ccontinued paging, typed the obscured: rmap ovflo, lost [653,661] and seemingly went into an infinite paging loop. 2. Pushed reset button, during startup I recieved some messge about file damage, and that the machine was reparing it. Things came up normally, I am now using vt100 emulation to my local friendly community VAX. What happened. Should I re-install the system from the floppies (gag)? 512k does make life difficult, any chance of more reasonably priced memory expansion (I can by 512 in unmounted chips for about $40). Thanks (from a UNIXtm novice). Chris Chute Dartmouth Medical School
