------- [no flies on me] A quote from DTACK GROUNDED, issue #42, June 1985 concerning predicted sales for the Unix PC: "We started off this rag ... by asserting that AT&T was going to need \miles of shelves/ to store unsold UNIX PCs on... "Let us assume that AT&T succeeds in stopping production after only 50,000 UNIX PCs have been built. "Of that 50,000 about 10,000 will have been sold. AT&T will purchase 8,500 itself, the recently divested telephone operating companies ... will buy 1,483 units, and the rest of the world will buy 17." Hmmm... Well the net is not quite "the rest of the world" but it is a substantial portion thereof :-) So I ask you: is Felgerkarb (DTACK's editor) correct? Has the rest of the world only bought 17 UNIX PCs? I'd like Felgerkarb to find out. Here's the Idea: why don't all UNIX PC owners drop DTACK GROUNDED a post card and tell Felgerkarb you've bought one (he loves mail). This character is quite vitriolic in his attacks on Unix as being a totally unsuitable OS and he claims the UNIX PC will demonstrate that the "rest of the world" agrees. Shall we show him? But what if he only gets 17 postcards??? may all your snarks be boojums, to'c Necessary addendae: 1) Several words in the above are protected by copyright/trademark by various groups. You know who you are. 2) Any implied opinions in the above simply do not exist, therefore do not assume that Tektronix, Inc. even knows what I'm talking about. 3) DTACK GROUNDED says I have to send a copy of page 26 along with the above quotes. Will the important info satisfy you, Felgerkarb? SUBSCRIPTIONS: Subscriptions are $15 for 10 issues in the U.S. and Canada (U.S. funds), of $25 for 10 issues elsewhere. Make the check payable to DTACK GROUNDED. All back issues are kept in print; write for details. The address is: DTACK GROUNDED 1415 E. McFadden, Ste. F SANTA ANA CA 92705 Last word from to'c: The subscription is well worth it. FNE may not like UNIX (or much of anything else, for that matter) but he is a fine, knowledgable and entertaining writer. This is not an advertisement, just an opinion (see item #2 above).
