I am finally going to get rid of my dumb terminal and I am thinking about buying one of these things. There are a couple of questions that I would like answered from people who own / or have used these things before I actually go and buy it. 1) How "IBM" compatible is this box ? Having a deep rooted affection for INT 21, I want to have a system with PC/MS DOS without buying something with the IBM name on it. Where will I find incompatibilities ?, I don't care about the difference between BASICA and GeeWhiz BASIC. 2) How much RAM can I fit on the motherboard ? I heard about putting 256K chips there to get 640K but do I need a soldering iron to install them ? 3) Will it accept IBM PC expansion cards for hard disk controllers and the like or do I have to buy an AT&T version ? I heard the 8 bit expansion cards will slow the system down, is this true for all devices or only for add-on RAM/multi-function cards ? 4) There appears to be IBM compatible graphics modes, how much software uses the extended HIGH resolution modes ? Is the color monitor as bad as the IBM monitor ? Is it worth switching from monochrome? Please mail me your personal responses to these questions so that I can decide between the 6300 and the COMPAQ.
