I've read the first Dragonlance book, and in my opinion, it never really
made the transition from D&D episode to bona fide novel. The characters
were fairly one-dimensional, the plot was what you'd expect from running
a D&D scenario, and even the action was easily mapped into D&D terms. I
found the last point to be mildly interesting, but not enough to want to
jump into the second book, which has been sitting on my shelf for 6 months.
(But then again, Lord of Light sat on my shelf for 9 months before I had
the desire to read beyond the first page. I just finished that one. It's
not the masterpiece (for me) I was lead to expect.)
