Here's a tough one: my university has decided not to pay for touch-tone service, so I have set my 7300 to use the rotary-phone codes. No problem when I call most places, but it seems there is one computer I would like to call that is inside a phone system which does not accept rotary clicks. That is, I call 123-4567 (no problem) and, having reached the company internal system, get a dial tone. Now the 7300 dials the extension, but it isn't recognized and the call fails. So, how can one work around this? If I could get the machine to use rotary clicks to dial the main number, then switch to touch-tone and dial the extension, things would be great. Unfortunately, without the source to uucp, this isn't easy. I tried to find the <thing> that makes the 7300 use rotary or touch-tone (whatever is changed by the 'Telephone Setup' process) so that perhaps I could manually change it from rotary to touch-tone between dialing 123-4567 and 9999 (there is a pause of about five seconds), but I haven't figured out what the <thing> is. Is this a possibility? Any other hints? Someone has suggested buying a device that would switch my telephone line so that it would recognize touch-tone, but I don't see exactly how that would work. -- Michael Richmond Princeton University, Astrophysics {allegra,akgua,burl,cbosgd,decvax,ihnp4,noao,princeton,vax135}!astrovax!richmon

[] This may not be a satisfactory alternative, but a Hayes type external modem is capable of switching dialing methods in midstream. It would tie up the serial port, and render the internal modem redundant, but it would work. -- Richard Klappal UUCP: ..!ihnp4!chinet!uklpl!rlk | "Money is truthful.
