[net.micro.att] Does WordPerfect run on the 6300?

I've seen a list of software that does and doesn't run on the
AT&T PC 6300. It's not helpful; 'Satellite Software Inc
WordPerfect' is listed as not working; 'SSI WordPerfect', a
little down the list, is listed as working. *sigh*

If you can compare Microsoft Word and WordPerfect (and maybe
XyWrite), I'd be interested in that, too; but add it to the
discussion already under way in net.micro.pc.

(*sigh* ihnp4!lzwi!psc does *NOT* work!!! Use above paths.)
"Were you ever famous?" "No." "Then how can you be a has been?"

I am guessing, but I suspect that the IBM version may not work but
that SSI has an ATT version? (Either that or they are talking about
different releases of WordPerfect?)

I suggest you contact SSI in Orem, Utah for info. The have WordPerfect
available on a LOT of machines (even the Apple // now!)

My wife and I have been using WordPerfect 4.0 on our AT&T PC6300
since June. It works fine. Everything that we have tried (for
example, Turbo Pascal, SmartcomII, Flight Simulator, PC FILE III)
has worked without problems also.

There are two versions of WordPerfect 4.0 for 8086/8088 machines:
the version for IBM compatibles (uses memory-mapped screen for fast
text moves); and the version for MS-DOS machines, which uses the DOS
function calls to access the screen. I believe that the MS-DOS
version should work on the AT&T 6300.

WordPerfect 4.1 (which is supposed to be a bigger improvement
over 4.0 than 4.0 was over 3.0) is on its way out the door.

In response to the last note, the version of WordPerfect 4.0
we are using on out PC6300 is the IBM compatible version (at
least that's what it says on the manual). It works fine.
