Apparently there are some people (my boss, for example) > who are not happy with the PC6300 keyboard. In what way are these > other keyboards different, and are they compatible (as a direct > replacement) for the regular 6300 keyboard? There are 2 keyboards that work with the PC 6300 PLUS. Model 301, the standard PC 6300 keyboard, has the traditional IBM PC 83-key layout. Model 302 differs in 3 basic ways: - It is a more Selectric-like layout. In particular, the shift keys are bigger; the return key is repositioned and is horizontal; CAPS LOCK is above the left shift; backslash/bar is to the right of the right shift; back apostrophe/tilda is above the return key; and CTRL is to the right of ALT. Also, the key names instead of symbols appear on the keys. - The function keys F1-F10 are spread across the top instead of the side to facilitiate dynamic key labels on the screen. - There is an additional (84th) key, the "window" key, in the upper right corner, which instantly switches between MS-DOS and UNIX. (On the model 301 keyboard, you can switch by pressing CTRL-ALT-Backspace simultaneously; that combination can be changed by the user.) You can use either keyboard on either the PC 6300 or the PC 6300 PLUS. The prices are the same ($150). --The PC 6300 PLUS Team
