[net.micro.att] *NIX booted from removable disks?

spf@bonnie.UUCP (Steve Frysinger) (11/12/85)

I'm looking for an AT&T 6300 removable hard disk system from which a
*NIX system can be booted. For security reasons, I cannot have a fixed
hard disk in the system. But I'd rather use *NIX than MSDOS (for
compatibility with a host system). So, a removable hard disk would do
the trick IF I could boot one of the available *NIX systems from it.
Thanks!

I have a Convergent Technoligies Megaframe system. This system uses the
Syquest 5Mb removable cartridge disk for backup and system loading. In
the preceeding six months I have had four failures of this drive. This
appears to be the rule rather than the exception (based on conversations
with the mfgr). If you do opt for a removable hard disk system, I recommend
avoiding the Syquest drive.
