Recent articles in the net have talked about System V Release 3 on The AT&T UNIX PC. The information being given is incorrect. Users are confusing version numbers for the UNIX PC System Software and the release numbers of the UNIX operating system. The Release 3 being talked about on the net for the UNIX PC is really Version 3.0 of the UNIX PC System Software. As was the case with Version 2.0 of the UNIX PC System Software, the UNIX kernel supplied as a part of both of these system software versions, is based upon UNIX System V, NOT on UNIX System V Release 2 or System V Release 3.
