[net.micro.att] umodem sources, anyone?

richmon@astrovax.UUCP (Michael Richmond) (01/21/86)

I just got Version 3.0 of the AT&T 7300 operating system, which
includes among other things a new communications program. It includes
the capability to transfer files via the UMODEM protocol. Does
anyone have the source to a UMODEM-style program for sending and
receiving so that I can install it on the local vaxen? Or, failing
that, a detailed description of the process that would allow me to
write my own?

I am sure that other 7300 owners will be interested in the answer
to this question, so I will summarize and post any interesting
responses. Unless, of course, someone posts the source. Perhaps
it would be best if anyone with sources sends me mail, so that
the net isn't inundated with ten copies of the same program,
and we can have just one (the best?) posted.

The UMODEM program is just an Unix implementation of the XMODEM
protocol. This is the same XMODEM protocol that many BBSs and micros
use for file transfer; programs like mdm720 (for cpm80 systems) and
PC-TALK (for IBM PCs) use this protocol.

The source to one of the generations of umodem is available
in the UN*X section of VAXSIG on Compuserve, and is prob.
available in somebodies archives of net.sources.

I have a copy and can post it if there is enough demand.

(Note: the version I have can be used by a remote CP/M (??DOS)
system to take or put something, but I can't use it to take/put
from an RCPM. I haven't taken the time to fix it.)
