[net.micro.att] 6300+ and LaserWriter: Happy ending

kim@emory.UUCP (Kim Wallen {Psychology}) (06/20/86)

I recently posted a note about my inability to get my AT&T 6300+
running MS-WORD to print anything on our Apple LaserWriter. Apple
had no solutions, and after talking with four different Microsoft
tech support people they suggested I talk with Adobe Systems.
The woman I talked to at Adobe suggested the problem might be the
speed of the 6300+. Sure enough when I switched to a 6300 there
was no problem. Everything worked fine. Fortunately, Adobe had
run into a similar problem with the IBM PC/AT and they had a
patch which fixed the problem for the AT. They quickly sent me
a copy of the patch and when installed it fixed the problem with
the 6300+.

Adobe told me that the problem has been corrected in the version 2.0
LaserWriter Roms. If you get a LaserWriter Plus upgrade kit it
corrects the problem in the new ROMs. Needless to say I was very
pleased with Adobes' response. Their technical person (Ms. Kletter)
was very helpful and did some extra research to find solutions to
the problem. It is nice to find a company that not only cares (both
Microsoft and Apple tried), but has the technical know how to solve the
problem.

As an aside, in regard to the recent comments about the 6300+. We are
extremely happy with it at this point. It is the only MS-DOS machine
that I have used that I could imagine actually using myself (the one
I have been setting up is for our office). It really is fast, has
a superb keyboard, excellent graphics (which WORD 3.0 takes advantage
of), and has been very reliable. I have yet to see our copy of
SIMUL-TASK, but then I just got the request to send in our coupon
on Monday. We will be using this machine as a server on our
STARLAN network so we'll get a chance to really see what it can do.
So far though I only have strong praise for the machine. It really
is a nice package.
