I'd be all set to drop one of the $900 Tandon 1/2 high 40M drives into my 7300 if I had some way of formatting it. Does know how I can get a program to do it? Thanks, -dB -- {amdahl, sun, mtxinu, cbosgd}!rtech!daveb

On the diagnostics disk that comes with the machine, select the hard disk format option. It will look at the disk, see that it is not one that it already knows about, and then ask you questions about how many cylinders, etc. the drive has. I put a 1/2 height 40M drive in my 7300 without any problems. Much faster than the clunker 20M that was in it previously. -- Jim Webb "Out of phase--get help" ihnp4!houxm!hropus!jrw

When you reformat the disk if it has no readable format info on it, the program will ask for what type of drive it is. There are about 9 choices and the last one is other. Chose Other. Then it will ask you about tracks, heads, and sectors. answer 981, 5, and 17 respectively. It worked for me with my Tandon 755. This formats you out to about 41Meg of usable space. Joseph L.
