From the "Office" manager of OS Merge (OSM) on my 6300+ I have chosen to install some MS-DOS applications software from floppy disks. OSM puts me into the DOS environment, creates and suggests a directory \foo for installation, and turns me loose. When I "quit", the office manager apparently links my files in /foo to ones in /osm/lbin (also links /osm/lbin/foo.exe or .com to /osm/lbin/foo). And, it adds \foo to my MS-DOS "PATH". Question: Since "PATH" already includes \osm\lbin, why is \foo appended? Another subject: Has anyone yet installed MS WORD on the hard disk - can it be put on the combined UNIX/MS-DOS partition? scott ihnp4!drutx!dsc

Actually, Simul-Task ("OS Merge") looks to see whether any of the files you installed have the same names as files already existing in /osm/lbin. If NONE do, then all the files are linked to /osm/lbin, which is already in your path. If ANY do, then NO files are linked to /osm/lbin, AND the directory where the application is stored is added to your path. > Another subject: Has anyone yet installed MS WORD on the hard disk - can > it be put on the combined UNIX/MS-DOS partition? Yes for Word 2.0; I don't know for 3.0 but I know of no reason why not. --Bruce Burger AT&T Information Systems Freehold, NJ {...ihnp4!}mtuxo!btb
