[net.micro.att] Using ATT hires mono graphics with programs like MicroSoft Word

Does anyone have a driver to make programs like MicroSoft Word take advantage
of the 6300's build in hires monochrome graphics. I understand that ATT can
put out 600x400 resolution so one ought to be able to do almost as well
with an ATT as with a Hercules card. Is this so?

Thanks in advance.

There was patch, I don't know from who, it was ONLY for version 3.0 of
WORD. If I find it (mmmm lessee, maybe under this stack, oh oh, !!CRASH!!)
I will post the information.........

A salesman that I talked to when I bought my 6300 (appr. one month
ago) told me that using hi-res graphics with a 6300 was possible,
but that a special board was required to completely emulate an
EGA board. I suspect that the 6300 creates the illusion of 640x400
resolution by doubling the raster lines from the CGA 640x200 mode.
Since the monitor (I assume you have an AT&T monitor) obviously is
able to display this resolution, I suspect that a hardware mod is
required to get the 16 color palette and higher *true* resolution
of an EGA. If this is the case, then a software driver will not do
the trick. Anybody out there know for sure?.......

Hmm. Microsoft Word version 3.0 runs just fine on our 6300's as delivered,
using the monochrome 640x400 resolution in Word's graphics mode.
Are there different version 3.0's? Or are there different 6300 video
boards? (Actually, the latter *is* true; there is some program
(PC paintbrush?) that runs *only* on those 6300's around here that have
had the video board replaced (by AT&T). However, I have not yet seen
this problem with Word.)

I just received an update to Borland's Reflex, which has a new
screendriver for the 6300. It now displays double the lines in
graphics mode.
