This is a complete transcript of a memo from J.K.Sims, Vice President, General Manager of DSG. --------------------------------------------------------------------------- PERKIN-ELMER CORPORATION March 7, 1985 MEMORANDUM TO: The Field Personnel FROM: J. K. Sims SUBJECT: The Article Entitled "New Race For Speed Kings" The March 1st issue of Datamation magazine carried the above article featuring three companies. They were Gould, Harris, and Perkin-Elmer. Let me begin by telling you that I strongly believe we were not fairly treated. Also, it is my personal opinion that the author took editorial liberties based on input received primarily from former and perhaps disgruntled employees who left over a year ago. While everyone is certainly entitled to their personal opinion, I feel that factual journalism means factual reporting ...without bias. The heavy reliance the author placed on "emotional" response, accompanied by "out of context" and insensitive commentary, has caused me to take the following actions: 1) A telegram stating our position has been sent both to the editor and publisher of Datamation. 2) We have requested a "face-to-face" meeting with the editor and publisher of Datamation. 3) We have prepared a concise and formal response which will be shared and openly discussed during our meeting. It is my intention to pursue this unfortunate situation as an opportunity ... and not view it negatively. As an organization, we have a chance to let this publication know (in some detail) who and what we've become in the past two years ... an exciting turnaround. It is now obvious that this is not as well known as we would have been led to believe. The mission is clear. We have to communicate it "loudly" and professionally. I will keep you advised of our progress. J.K.Sims Vice President, General Manager, DSG --------------------------------------------------------------------------- regards, joe -- Full-Name: Joseph M.
