[net.music.gdead] Dead Quiz

Dear All Deadheads,

I just got a giant list of lyrics from another deadnetter. There
were only a couple of holes in them. I thought it would be fun for
everyone to look at these song fragments and help me fill in the blanks.
Unless you have the sheet music for these, there is no "right" answer, so feel
free to post your guesses on the net. It will be interesting to see the
variety of responses. I will also, just for fun, give a few song phrase
fragments and see if you can guess where they come from:

from Cosmic Charlie:

Woke up waiting for a windy day
Cat on I (?) since the first of February
Mama keeps saying that the wind might blow
But standing here I say I just don't know.

alligator:

Teeth big and pointy, and his eyes were bugging out
Contract the union, put the ??? to ???
Screaming and yelling, he was liking his chops
He never run, he just stumbles and hops

Peggy-o

Come steppin' down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs Pretty Peggy-O
Come steppin' down the stairs, holding back your yellow hair
In the hand ??? ??? , William-O.

So Far from Me:

You say you want to try again
well you don't realize
that I have a better end in mind

It doesn't seem you really have to
close your eyes to see
Though I hope you don't need me
You are so far from me

There was something I had caught inside
? ?
? ?
It doesn't seem you really have to
close your eyes to see
you have been all you'll be
it's just you babe
and we can't relate at all

It doesn't seem you really have to
close your eyes to see
Though I hope you don't need me
You are so far from me

     Now for some fragments:

What songs do these come from?

1) the great white sperm whale,

2) A knife in the back

3) catch colt

4) Hide the ones in trouble

5) the restless heart keeps flying,

There is a little trich to the last two.

                                  Have fun,

                                   Andy Bindman

Yes, indeed, very tricky. My guess is... uhhh France?

From the Heart of me

BTW, I haven't seen any attempts at the little question I posted last
week so I'll try again. (Is this getting through? If it isn't, don't tell
me, I don't want to know)

What songs sung by the Dead contain the number 10,000. (That's ten thousand)?

See you all at GG. Shhh...
