I've been informed by a number of people that my recent posting of lyrics may be in violation of copyright law. I really didn't consider this when I sent it out. If it is a violation, well, sorry. The lyrics were typed in from people's memory, not from any printed text, if that makes any difference. -- larry kolodney (The Devil's Advocate) UUCP: ...{ihnp4, decvax!genrad}!mit-eddie!lkk ARPA: lkk@mit-mc

By the way I was glad you put them up. --Ed

If im not mistaken i've seen this list of lyrics before in a book that was bound but had no publishers name or anything. It was picked up at a show by a friend in exchange for a necklace she had made. It looks like it was put together by deadheads for deadheads. I think its great to lay back in a van after some shows and read the lyrics to yourself while your brain fills in the music. I am really glad it was posted... Thanks marc

Given the "relaxed" atmostphere around the Dead. And since the lyrics were not copied per se, I dont think anyone should be worrying about copyright violation. These lyrics were probably gleaned from thousands of hours of of the tapes that the Dead have never restricted. I dont think the band would mind them being posted, considering the important acid test - no one has profited from them. In fact, in reference to some who said that a European Deadhead was selling copies, the posting of the lyrics probably saved the publishing world from losing several dollars of ill-gotten gains. Thank you for posting them. Andy "the second cup of coffee's free - but the first you have got to pay"
