[net.music.gdead] News from Ralph Records

Just got a new mini-catalog from Ralph Records, and thought I'd spread
the interesting information to fans of that great San Francisco based band
with legions of die hard fans who follow them everywhere: the Residents.

1) About that long awaited completion to the Residents' Mole trilogy: well,
they're putting out a record this fall, but it is not part three of
the Mole trilogy---it's part four! (Taking their cue from Douglas
Adams, except they didn't bother with part three. When I spoke to
Hardy Fox when I was out in SF this past January, I told him I didn't
believe that there would ever be a part three, that it was a scam, but
that it all balanced out because the Residents' trilogy has two parts
and Adams' trilogy has four.) The name of the record is "The Big
Bubble", which refers to the name of a band popular in postwar Chub-
Mole land. To quote from Willie the Squealer's gossip in the catalog:
"Musically this is a very heavy record, really depressing stuff with
lots of phoney heavy metal fuzz guitars." Sounds, uh, typical.

2) Part 2 of the Residents' Great American Composers series (where part 1 was
devoted to George Gershwin and James Brown) is also in the works.
The first side is devoted to the music John Phillip Sousa (can you
imagine the Liberty Bell march, the theme of that humorous circus of
the air[waves] named after a snake, done in Residential style????).
The rumor is that side two will be devoted to (of all people) Hank
	Williams.

3) For those of you in the San Francisco area, Ralph Records day in San
	Francisco on June 8th, 10am to 4pm, at 566 Folsom St. (I think that's
Ralph world domination headquarters.) Also, Ralph will be in
attendance at several record swaps in the LA area (Record Swap at
Hyatt Hotel on Sunset in Hollywood, 6/1, 9am-5pm; and City College
Record Swap in Pasadena, 1570 E. Colorado in Pasadena, 6/2, 8am-1pm).

4) No new word on "Big Brother", Ralph's BBS system that became defunct late
last year, or its potential successor.

5) The Residents did the soundtrack for a (somewhat) mainstream movie called
"The Census Taker", a comedy starring Garrett Morris, Greg Mullavey,
and Timothy Bottoms. The soundtrack (and the album, which is expected
to be released this summer) contains new Residential music for the
titles and for a few key scenes, plus older Residents tunes given
	instrumental treatment.
