[net.music.gdead] GG Park

Picked off the MC deadhead list...more grist for the rumor mill.

Herb Caen writes a daily "gossip column" for the San Francisco Chronicle.
At the top of today's column:

CULTURE VULTURES: Even though 16,000 tickets have already been
sold at $15 each, the Grateful Dead is canceling its appearances
at Cal Expo in Sacramento June 8-9. The official reason is
"scheduling conflicts." The real reason is that three members
of the great rock group - Jerry Garcia, Bob Weir and Phil Lesh -
have tickets to the S.F. Opera's "Ring" cycle on those dates and
the band members voted to cancel rather than deny the three their
Wagnerian pleasures.

....I heard from a friend on the west coast yesterday that there
was an article in a San Fran news paper talking about this years revitalized
GG Park concerts. Apparently these are the first shows since the DEAD played
there in 1975. Anyway, many bands were announced to play thru out the summer,
along with a disclaimer that the DEAD would be playing there soon. It did
mention that it was rumored they would possibly play there in September
though. I guess we'll have to wait and see. Maybe its a ploy!?! Who knows.

One thing though, to my knowledge the DEAD still don't have concert dates for
their much publicized anniversary date of June 7th. How could they not play
on this date??? Any bets for GG park on June 7th?
