YEAH! The GREEK shows were hot! If I had to pick the highlight of the weekend ...it would have to be THAT'S IT FOR THE OTHER ONE!!! Incredible!!!!! BTW, "Walking Blues" is a very old tune that dates somewhere back to the 30's I believe, but was popularize by the infamous HOT TUNA!! (If only Jorma was there!). Someone asked about "I wash my hands". I don't know who wrote it but the Dead did do it a couple of times in the early 70's, and as mention along with Comes a Time in a Fillmore show in '71. One topic sorta unmentioned was the crowd. Boy! are west coast crowds mellow, I mean MELLOW! And I think its reflected in the way the band plays. The Dead are definitely a little looser on the west coast. Although all the shows were extremely tight and satisfying....they don't seem to reach the energy levels of the east coast shows. This is reflected by the crowd itself. I've heard more noise from East coast crowds before a show even starts, than I heard all weekend long at the Greek! Don't get me wrong, The Dead were(are) still hot there.....just in a different way. One reason could also be the "coolness" of it all. Literally no hassles. I saw maybe 6 cops all weekend there, and five were directing traffic! I'd like to see them get away with that on the East coast! Did anyone notice how crazy Dan Healy was at the Greek!?!? Boy was he dancing up a storm! Thought he was gonna fall out of the sound booth a couple of times! KFOG of San Francisco did a Dead special last saturday night that was pretty funny. They aired the press conference the Dead did just before the Greek shows. And as you can image...it was more humorous then enlightning. There was some real "gems" spoken by the band members (maybe I can post them at another time). But for all you people on the net that are in the SanFran area and get KFOG, they do a great Deadhead Hour every Monday at 10pm. I heard some of the stuff they play and its great! Most of it comes from the Dead's private tape vaults....so its all quality stuff! Not to mention, the band members frequently stop by to rap about stuff for the hour special. Worth looking into.
