[net.music.gdead] RED ROCKS CONFIRMED!

woods@hao.UUCP (Greg Woods) (07/24/85)

Well folks, it's time to think about packing up and heading for Colorado,
because the RED ROCKS SHOWS ARE ON! I actually heard this several days ago,
because I have a friend who has a friend who works on the Dead hotline (no,
it isn't the lady whose voice you hear), but I have been hesitant to post
it because firstly, I wanted to get *my* order in before hoards of netheads
beat me to the tickets :-), and also I couldn't be 100% certain and did not
want to post false information. But as of today, the hotline is confirming
Red Rocks, Sept. 5,6, & 7 (as originally scheduled by Feyline and reported
here by yours truly). That's a Thursday, Friday and Saturday.
Unfortunately, there is some bad news to go along with the good. Tickets
will be a whopping $17.50 (what a gouging! Sounds like fat Fey has his
greedy hands in the till again!), and all shows, including the weekday
shows, will start at 2pm. A real drag for us local working types who have spent
all their vacation time already this year. But you can rest assured I'll
be there. Somehow. Probably by working all through Labor Day weekend ~sigh~
I think the Dead are trying to avoid the bad weather that has plagued the
Red Rocks shows (by rescheduling into prime thunderstorm time; brilliant!)
They seem to have the wrong idea about Colorado weather. They really have just
had bad luck (like in '79, '82 and '84), but have forgotten the '83 evening
shows when the weather was perfect all three nights. Constant rain in the
summer is *rare* here, but afternoon thunderstorms are commonplace. The only
sure way to avoid rain is to schedule the shows in the morning (anyone else
remember Bobby's half-serious question about that last year? He asked if
they had 10am shows, would everyone come, and the crowd cheered. Apparently
he really was serious!)
At any rate, here is the relevant info. The usual 3x5 card with name,
address and phone in upper left corner, with days listed in order of preference.
Max 4 tickets per show. Include self-addressed stamped envelope for return
of tickets. Postage is 22 cents for 1-8 tickets and 37 cents for 9-12 tickets.
Only money orders or bank/cashier's checks accepted (no personal checks or
cash). $17.50 per ticket. If you request, they will return your tickets by
registered mail (you have to include an additional $3.90 for that service).
The address to order tickets is:

Grateful Dead Ticket Sales -- Red Rocks
P.O. Box C-S 8150
San Rafael, Ca. 94912

Orders are filled on first-come, first-served basis based on date of postmark.
No Federal Express or equivalent letters accepted (USPS only). Tickets will
go on sale in Colorado at Select-a-Seat starting Aug. 19. I presume they will
all be general admission, the hotline did not say. For a replay of this
information, call:

(415) 457-6388 (West Coast hotline)
(415) 457-0207 (Additional info on Red Rocks or Oakland [Henry Kaiser] shows)

See you on the Rocks!
