From: Mark Lottor <MKL@SRI-NIC.ARPA> San Jose Mercury News -- August 16, 1985 THE DEAD PLAN TO GET HIGH -- 7,200 FEET HIGH On with the show -- It is being billed as "the highest Greatful Dead concert in the world." You can take that any way you want, but in this case, the "high" in question is Boreal Ridge, as in Donner Summit along Interstate-80, as in 7,200 feet above sea leavel. Dead Heads and other high-minded sorts should start planning for the upcoming Day of the Dead, to be held at the aforementioned Ridge Saturday, Aug. 24. This all-day "Grateful Dead Summit Conference" features the group along with a crafts fair and what the organizers refer to as "tall pines, soft grass and trip and slide." With double entendres like that, this concert could set pop culture back a good 20 years, roughly the time period that the Dead still inhabits with a kind of hippyesque hyperbole. For the true fans, this is a concert not to be missed (and it probably won't be). Gates open at 11am, concert begins at 2pm. For mor info call (408) 247-7469, or the "Dead Head Hot Line" at (415) 457-6388. -------
