[net.music.gdead] non-trivial gd trivia question

gms@fluke.UUCP (Greg Schilling) (12/02/85)

I am posting this for a friend and do not regularly read this newsgroup
so please reply by mail. Thanks in advance for any info you might have...

Question: can anyone tell me the origin of these three Dead tunes from
their very first album (psychedelic cover,no name on it but G.D., still in
print at a lower "nice price"): Morning Dew, Minglewood Blues, and Viola Lee
Blues. I think these were written by southern black blues musicians such as
Sam Chatman, Bill Broonzy....does anyone know the authors?

Question: Can anyone recommend Dead or other albums along similar lines
to the music on that first album?
I guess I'm thinking along lines of psychedelicized traditional tunes, played
with a kind of acoustic-electric blended sound.

Question: The 1960s Maria & Geoff Muldaur tune, "Death Letter Blues"
("....I wrote a letter this morning, how do you think it read...."), what
album is it on and who wrote it?
