[net.sources.games] Winning the game

gjmilligan@watnot.UUCP (Greg Milligan) (09/17/86)

We have a small problem here with our version of Larn 12.0. I won the
game last night, sold everything I had, put it in the bank and went home
to save the kid. It put me down as a winner with ~875,000 points. (I
know, I could have got alot more...) I played after that, and it started
me off with no weapons, armour, or gold, and no-one would do business
with me, including the bank where I all of my 875,000 gold pieces. What
am I missing??? Sorry this is in net.sources.games, but there is no
net.games.larn yet. (Or is there?)

Thanks.
Greg.

You are now playing difficulty level 1, where you start off with nothing.
You also have to pay taxes. Once you've paid off the taxes, you can
visit the bank etc. But don't be surprised to find 0 gold pieces in the bank!

Not a bug, what you are suffering from is a condition know as
"now that yo have played the game and won, you must pay the
price". You should have received voluminous mail when you won,
congratulating you, and informing you that you owe taxes on
your winnings. Your bank account has been seized by the Larn
Internal Revenu Service. And a "feature" of larn is that once
you have won a game at a lower difficulty level, you get to
play it at the next difficulty level next time. This is why
you "go naked into the dungeon". You can eventually find armor
and weapons and gold, but till you pay off your taxes at the
tax office (L on the surface), none of the stores are going to
deal with you. The pawn shop will buy things from you
	however.

Hang in there. There are 4 levels of difficulty!
