I've got a new toy...(oboy!) I was in the Manchester, NH region yesterday at Daddy's Junky Music looking for a mixer board. There, I found something else that I've been contemplating buying for some time now: a programmable sequencer which would mate with my Arp Oddessy. The Roland MC-202 Micro-Composer is a fully programable sequencer with simple sound synthesizer integrated in the same package. The synth part is simple (not very versatile) but does include ADSR envelope generation, filtering, and LFO effects. The sequencer is much nicer. It allows storage of 2600 instructions which record pitch, gate and duration. Programming can be done numerically from number keys on unit, from crude 2.5 octave piano keyboard on unit, or from a remote synth keyboard. Programming can also be dumped or loaded from data tape. Full editing of entered data includes review, step, forward, backwards, insert, delete, copy, shift back one bar and others. Bars allow easier editing and entry of data. Various tempos can be entered, and adjusted at play time. Rests are supported. The MC-202 is designed to work with any synthesizer with external CV and gate controls with a 1volt/octave coding scheme. It can be used as a metronome, can be played in duet with another synth, or piped directly into another synth. Play can be once through data string, or repeated. Connectors are provided to connect the MC-202 with other snythesizers and amplification equipment. Music and data can be saved to tape. A tape sync track is also provided. This sync can also be used to sync with other Roland equipment. At $225 this little gadget puts out. It is battery or AC adaptor driven so it can be used as a portable music maker. I am looking forward to many enjoyable hours with it. Mark J. Norton decvax!genrad!{panda | teddy}!mjn* *teddy is normally our main unix system, but it is temporarily running vms.
